About Micropipette calibration

Micropipette calibration
Calibration is the process of checking the accuracy of a measuring instrument by comparing the measures with another similar instrument that serves as a standard.
The performance of a measurement method can be estimated by evaluating its accuracy.
*
Trueness: Closeness of agreement between the average value obtained from a large series of test results and an accepted reference value (true value).
*
Precision: The closeness of agreement between independent test results obtained under stipulated conditions.
*
Under a constant temperature and atmospheric pressure, the density of distilled water is constant. The volume of water can be determined by weighing the dispensed water. The calibration of pipette is carried out by the gravimetric method. When determining the volume of water, the accuracy of measurements is done at ambient temperature, under atmospheric pressure and relative humidity. These factors are usually combined to give the Z factor, used in calculation of volume of water. Then the calculated volume of water is compared with the theoretical volume to determine the trueness and the precision of the pipette.
